1. What does the video clip tell you about life in the 1920s and 1930s?
2. What does it tell you about what life was like in the Royal Family?

Science - World Habitats PowerPoint 

This week you will be learning about habitats around the World. Read through the PowerPoint, then choose 1 of the habitats to do more research on

Computing - Purple Mash 14 day trial If you are able we would like you to register for this 14 day free trial. Once logged on it is the 2code icon we would like you to click on and work on your coding skills. Start with chimp level and see how you get on. We will leave this task on for 2 weeks so it allows you to make full use of your 14 day free trial. (Don't worry there are lots of help videos along the way if you get stuck)

PSHE - Wellbeing - This is a lesson from Bitesize which helps children to learn about the importance of self belief and managing your emotions.

🌟Mrs Burton's Ongoing Project - Who is your hero?🌟

When I was in primary school I did a project all about my hero. It took me weeks! I learned lots of facts, made a booklet, drew and cut out pictures, and I can still remember facts about Gary Winston Lineker now! So it's your turn, choose someone who you admire, learn all about them, then show what you know in whatever way you want e.g scrapbook, PowerPoint, poster. This should be a project you work on over the next few weeks rather than complete in 1 session.

Freya has had an exciting week! First Lydia Monks tweeted in response to Freya's super picture of Sugarlump and the Unicorn; then Freya sent a letter to Julia Donaldson as part of her hero project and received a reply along with some stickers. Look at that happy, proud face! I just love to see a love of books from such a young age, and what a beautiful long letter too! Well done, Freya!

What a lovely email to receive from Mrs Burton today. Lewis worked really hard and had great ideas in his work on the magic box this morning at school! Super work Lewis!

Here is a reminder of the link for your two week writing task. I hope you are enjoying this challenge. Remember to take time to check that each activity is done to the best of your ability before moving on to the next one. There is absolutely no rush!

Reading Comprehension There are 3 levels of comprehension, challenge yourself!

Spellings: 

The 'or' sound spelt ‘a’ before ‘l’ and ‘ll’

Use the following words: call, tall, ball, walk, talk, always

See if your child can think of some words for each of these spellings and write them down.

Tell your child to look at the tricky ones where they can’t hear the ‘l’. What can they do to help them remember these?

Use some of the strategies worked on in class to help you: pyramid words, drawing an image around the word, drawing boxes around each letter to show the shape, look say cover write check etc. Try rainbow writing: write each letter in a different colour or write the whole word in one colour and overlay this in further colours.

History - VE Day This week, as we have a bank holiday on Friday, I would like you to learn about VE Day. What is it? Why are we celebrating it's 75th anniversary this week? You might even notice The Queen and her family in the information you learn too. PE - School Games Virtual Challenge North Yorkshire Sports have set some challenges for children to do each week. Have a look and choose 1 or 2 to have a go at. I think you can even send a video to them showing how many you've done if you've not missed the deadline.

Henry has been doing maths work today on rows and columns and he has been using his number blocks to make equal groups. Well done, Henry!

I have received some lovely writing from Charlie this week. Here is his writing from the point of view of Sidney the Spider!

... and here is a lovely letter that Charlie has written for me! This made my day!

Well would you look at what Freya has been up to! Here she is on her woodland walk. Freya's mummy sent me a lovely email telling me all about what they've been up to.

'When we went to the woods we chatted about habitats, and discussed which animals live in the woods. We then looked under some enormous logs that had been piled up and found some micro-habitats. Lots of woodlice, worms, millipedes, spiders etc. We've also had some success with our own micro-habitat and 3 of our Painted Lady butterflies have emerged to date. We've trialled putting out different fruit to see which they enjoy most. Banana is the definite favourite and today we are going to see if melon is more popular! When the weather is a bit better we will release them. Last time they landed on Freya before flying off!

Freya has chosen author Julia Donaldson as her hero for her Ongoing Project. We've started researching Julia and are awaiting our scrapbook to arrive so that we can start sticking in some of the pictures and writing facts about her life. We've also managed to source a young readers biography of her life that Freya is learning from.

Then yesterday, Freya and her family had a 'Superhero Day' with English, maths and craft all thrown in. 

Looks like so much fun Freya- well done :)
